As a closet organizer, I naturally have my favorite products and accessories that I recommend to all of my clients and even use myself.
If you have a lot of shoes, they definitely shouldn’t be on the floor of your closet. Rather, they should be propped up on a rack or a hanging makeshift shelf. Not only will this make your closet look neater because you won’t have shoes splayed across the floor, but you’ll also have a specific location for them, which as we know, is very important. I love this particular shoe rack because it’s expandable, which means it’ll probably fit your closet, and it’s super easy to assemble!
While there’s definitely a time and a place for thicker hangers, I’m mostly a proponent of slimline, velvet hangers. Buying slim hangers means you’ll have more room for all the clothes you already have, or those clothes that you’re looking to buy! It also creates a much cleaner look because you don’t see large, thick hangers in your eyeline, but rather you see streamlined, nearly camouflaged holders, allowing you to focus on what’s really the focal point, your clothes. Depending on the color scheme of your home/closet, you may want to opt for a lighter slate color.
Yet those hangers won’t work for absolutely everything. For scarves, for instance, you’ll want to invest in these hangers. They allow you to easily drape your scarves and since each one has five loops, plus belt hooks, you’ll be getting the absolute most out of your closet, no matter how small.
Since not all of us are fans of folding, I’m happy to be the bearer of the best news ever: there are ways around folding! While I love to fold every item in my closet, even my underwear and bras, I highly recommend using this drawer storage system if folding just isn’t your thing.
To top off your closet, you’ll want to purchase some cedar blocks to protect your beautiful clothing against moths and other mean creatures.
