Bay Area Exploring: Lake Merritt

First Image

Whenever I need a solid dose of sunshine, nature, and delicious food, I head over to Lake Merritt. I’ve done everything from run around the lake, picnic on the grass surrounding the lake, and attempt to tan on the lawn.

A couple weekends ago, I decided to explore some of the restaurants and shops just a short walk from the lake and loved every single shop I entered. If you’re looking to explore a cute, fun neighborhood, Lake Merritt is my recommendation!

Throw It

First Image
Throw blankets serve so many different functions in a space, which is exactly why I love to drape them over as many pieces as possible. Full disclosure, I have about 10 throw blankets folded up in my hall closet and I love to bring new ones down every few months.

At the moment, I’m loving crisp, white throws, as well as a colorful knit. Here’s how I’m using my throws to ground my styling:

The Prettiest Desks

A little while back, I shared my desk organizing and decorating tips for my office desk. Though now that I’ve been at the same desk for almost a year, I’m beginning to feel that it’s time to revisit my decorating and spruce things up a bit. I’m loving the gold accents and little trinkets in the below photos and am now on the hunt for adorable items that will spruce my desk up and also make me more productive.

To Be A Hostess…

First Image

Having only hosted a couple of parties in my lifetime, I am by no means an expert. However, I have learned some things along the way that helped me a ton in pulling off the tea party of my dreams back in April.

Schedule ahead. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that events can get very stressful if left until the last minute. Sure, there are always going to be things that you cannot do until the day of – like purchase fresh fruit – but there are likely many things you can cross off the list weeks in advance. For my tea party, for example, I went shopping for paper cups, plates, and the likes a couple weekends before so I did not have to worry about that the weekend of the party.

Be prepared, but not too prepared. Continuing from the point above, you want to be sure that you are prepared and on top of things but not too on top of things that everything comes together sort of robotically. The best parties feel organic and relaxed. Maybe don’t put the cookies in the oven until your guests are there, so they feel at home and comfortable.

Create an ambiance. To make a party successful, it’s not enough to just have great guests and great food. On top of this, it’s always a good idea to play some music and add in other elements to really set the tone.

Remember the details. It’s all in the details rings particularly true when it comes to parties. From fresh flowers on the dining table to the full roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, make sure you think of everything!
