My New Morning Routine

first-image

I’m super excited to report that I have a new morning routine that has seriously changed my life. Ok, that might be a bit dramatic but let me explain.

A few weeks ago, I bought these wall hooks from Anthropologie because I thought they were too pretty to pass on. When I first purchased them, I knew that I would find a use for them but it wasn’t immediately clear just what that use was. I thought about hanging them in the bathroom to hold towels, or maybe even in the kitchen to hold oven mitts. Eventually, I landed on my closet and could not be more pleased with that decision.

I have always loved to plan my outfits in advance, but don’t love that then you just have a pile of clothes in your closet waiting for you. Luckily, these hooks have saved the day. Now, I can set out my outfit in advance but hang all of the items right onto the hooks. I hang everything from my jeans to my bra to my jewelry right on the hook, so when it comes time to get dressed, it’s all right there waiting for me.

So far, I am absolutely loving my new routine and would highly recommend it!

Living Room Spotlight

Every few months, I like to do a little refresh of my living room and share the changes I’ve been making here on the blog. While all of the updates this time around are fairly small–a new coffee table book, more books to round out the bookshelves, and some seasonal decor–I am hoping to make some bigger changes in the next few months. Stay tuned for that and let me know what you think of its current state!

Semi Sweet Tooth: Overnight Oats

first-image

My all-time favorite breakfast option is whole wheat avocado toast with an egg on top (do you blame me?). But since mornings usually consist of me running around the house like a chicken with its head cut off, I hardly ever have time to whip up a substantial meal. I had been searching for a healthy breakfast option that I could prepare the night before and transport to work easily, and when my co-worker mentioned overnight oats, I was sold.

What I love about this breakfast is that you can really make it your own depending on how you’re feeling that week. The staples stay the same–rolled oats, chia seeds, and some flavored milk (almond, coconut, etc.)–but how you sweeten it is totally up to you. Sometimes I do agave and cinnamon, other times vanilla extract.

There’s similarly no right answer when it comes to the toppings you add. Be it blueberries, strawberries, banana, granola, coconut flakes, or slivered almonds, it’s all super delicious.

Since Sundays are already my lunch and dinner meal prep day, I like to also make my overnight oats in bulk on this day. I’ll make enough for five days and put it all into one big mason jar.

I start with the oats, then add in the chia seeds, sprinkle in some cinnamon, and finish off with the almond milk.

I then put the mason jar in the fridge and let it work its magic overnight. The next morning, I divvy it up into smaller mason jars and add my toppings of choice. That’s it!

Have you ever tried overnight oats? If so, what do you like to put in your recipe? Share in the comments!

Tricks of the Trade: Emergency Kit

first-image

Back in my party planing days, I was trained how to make emergency kits for the bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and all wedding guests. Each kit was different but the overarching theme prevailed–you never know what might happen so it’s always best to be as prepared as you can be.

I remember going home the very night I was first trained and creating my very own emergency kit to keep in my purse. While my favorite products and cute tote to sport them in has evolved over the years, my love for emergency kits has never wavered.

Here’s what I keep in my emergency kit (from top left to bottom right):

  • Cover up
  • Advil
  • Sewing kit
  • Tweezers
  • Bandaids
  • Chapstick
  • Hand lotion
  • Neosporin

These Days

Ahh, I love a good weekend spent in Los Angeles with friends and family. The combination of sleeping in my old bedroom in my parents’ house, eating at all of my favorite spots, and baking in the warm sun always seems to do it for me. Here are a just a few of the highlights from my extended weekend.

Echo Park lake looking extra beautiful with (almost) clear blue skies.

Finally endured the hour-long line for EggSlut, and it was definitely worth it.

While I was downtown, I had to pop in The Broad for a second look.

I basically live at the Ace Hotel and I’m totally ok with it.

Wish List: Butcher Block Countertops

I’m having a major moment with butcher block countertops right now. There’s something about the casual vibe it creates, especially when paired with subway tile, that is super attractive to me. To top it all off (no pun intended, I love that you don’t have to be too precious with it since it actually looks pretty good with a bit of wear & tear.
