Tricks of the Trade: Pantry Makeover

I’m not going to lie, I’ve really struggled with organizing my pantry over the years. Sure, I’ve got a system in place for what goes where, but I’ve had a hard time finding enough space to store all of my snacks and canned goods. While our pantry is very tall, it’s not practical for me to store essentials all the way up at the top, and I’ve been trying to find a solution for a while.

Just the other weekend, I was in the Container Store and stumbled upon acrylic risers. I wasn’t sure if they were going to work for my project, but I figured I’d give them a try and return them if need be. Thankfully, they worked perfectly and have created much-needed additional shelving in my pantry.

As you can see in the above photo, cans can go under the riser while other items, such as farro and quinoa, can live on top. Hooray for extra storage!

Look Back on Summer Adventures

From beaches to bougainvillea, this summer has been filled with so many memorable adventures. While our trips to Santa Fe and Southern California, as well as our weekend getaway in San Francisco, were certainly the highlights, we’ve also really enjoyed staying local and soaking up the sun. I’m planning to savor every second of this last month of summer, but here are some of my favorite photos from the season thus far.

Apartment Wish List

Ok, ok, I’m guilty. I would make updates to my apartment on the daily if I could. What can I say? I just love making little changes and updates here and there!

So it should come as no surprise that I have a few areas/items on my wish list at the moment. Here’s a little breakdown:

Ever since I wrote this post about home bar necessities in which I repurposed the bar cart from my kitchen, I’ve been wanting another one for our living room. I think it would help round out the space, as well as make our home better-equipped for entertaining.

When we first moved in, we had absolutely nothing. First on our list? A bed, of course. Since we were in such a rush to buy a bed so that we could sleep in our own place, I didn’t even think about a rug to go underneath it. But now that we’re much more settled, it’s high up on my list.

My boyfriend is in love with the photograph we have above our dining table, but if it were up to me, we’d have floating shelves topped with pretty pottery and the like.

This chair is actually a newer addition, and while I love it, I think we can ultimately find a better home for it in our living room. In its place, I’d love to find a tall side table that would help create a landing place for mail, keys, etc.

Apartment Refresh

It’s officially official: I’m a chronic redecorator. And I’m ok with it. Keep scrolling to see the updates I’ve made around the house since my last blog update.

Meal Prep

A few years ago, I used to show up to the grocery store with no plan whatsoever and leave with a bunch of ingredients that did not work well together. Since then, I’ve learned the power of making a detailed list ahead of time, but I’ve also made a few other tweaks to my routine.

Stick to a routine: I used to go to the grocery store a couple days a week, but now I strictly go on Sunday’s. I really like going on this day because it means I have fresh produce for the upcoming week and sets my week up for success.

Organize my food: Right when I get home from the market, I start to organize what I bought. If I buy baby carrots for instance, I’ll take them out of the bag and put them right into a big container to make it easier to snack on them throughout the week. Doing this simple organization right off the bat helps ensure that my food stays fresher longer, and that it gets eaten.

Meal prep: While I am not one of those people who makes breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the week on a Sunday–though I wish I could do that!–I will prepare some things ahead of time. If I know I’m going to make chicken one night, for instance, I might make some quinoa ahead of time and store it in a container in the fridge. Similarly, I may cut up some fruit and put it in a Ziploc bag to make transporting it to work all the easier.
