I’m a big fan of a closet cleanse, and I always feel significantly better after one. Though if we’re being completely honest, not all closet cleanses are easy—rather, they are usually quite hard as they force you to take a hard look at all the items you have and make selections about what to keep v. what to say goodbye to.
The saying goodbye part is what’s hardest for me. Even if I’ve never worn an item, or if it were very expensive, I still struggle with getting rid of it. So as of late, I’ve been trying out something new: As I cleanse my closet, I create challenges for myself to follow to truly test if I’ll miss the item I can’t easily part with in the moment.
For example, I’ll place all of the items that I’m contemplating getting rid of but can’t quite pull the trigger to do so in one spot of my closet. Then, I’ll give myself a month to wear them. If they never make it into my rotation, then I know it’s time to say goodbye, officially.
This method has been working really well for me, and I encourage you to try it as well!
