Time to Clean Your Desk

First

Happy National Clean Off Your Desk Day! In honor of this national day, I thought I’d share some photos of my own desk — which is a nice blend of personal accessories and practical elements.

A desk should never be too crowded, as any miscellaneous items should be filed away in drawers. That way, all that is on the surface of the desk is what you need to get your work done and make yourself happy.

Hope you’re all inspired to do some desk organizing today!

The Prettiest Desks

A little while back, I shared my desk organizing and decorating tips for my office desk. Though now that I’ve been at the same desk for almost a year, I’m beginning to feel that it’s time to revisit my decorating and spruce things up a bit. I’m loving the gold accents and little trinkets in the below photos and am now on the hunt for adorable items that will spruce my desk up and also make me more productive.

Office Desk Organization

The Office

A few months back, I outlined how to keep your personal desk organized, touching on everything from filing to styling. While many of these points transfer right over to the topic of office desk organization, the tips on styling change ever so slightly. An office desk is indubitably meant to be functional – this is where we spend 8 hours or more each day, after all – but given the amount of time we spend at it, shouldn’t we also go the extra mile to keep it from feeling boring and uninspired? My thoughts exactly.

Now I am definitely not the office desk master, but when my company moved offices recently, I took it as an opportunity to design the desk I always wanted. Here’s what I did!

1. Make a comfortable work environment with your laptop propped up, supplemented by a second monitor to increase your productivity.

2. Get creative. I love using untraditional objects to hold my pens and pencils, such as a monogrammed mug.

3. Add in personal items that remind you of people, places, and things you love.

4. Keep it fresh with some nature. A succulent is a great touch!

5. Tidy up! This holds true for just about anything, but especially your office desk. Make some piles and hold them down with pretty paper weights.

When it comes to organizing your office supplies, I generally love to keep all small items in a drawer storage unit, as shown in this post. But with everything in your drawer, what do you have on top of your desk? I think there’s a fine line between cluttering the surface of your desk and leaving out select items that inspire you to work each day.

Personally, I love to keep little photos on my desk to remind me of loved ones and inspirational images. In addition, I also like to keep my favorite colored pens in little jars on top of my desk. I don’t always reach for these pens, as I typically opt for the black ones inside my drawer, but their color adds vibrancy to my desk and when I’m feeling cheerful, I’ll often choose a colored pen.

While I use glass jars to hold my pens, there many other creative options out there, such as mason jars, wall-mounts, and pretty much any other result of your creativity.

I’ve never been one to be able to sustain an organized, comforting mess. You know, the type of light mess that someone sees and thinks you’re human just like the rest of us, but isn’t completely repelled by?

With the notebooks placed on a slant and piles of books strewn about, these desks are the perfect example of the “beautiful mess” I’ve always wished I could tolerate.
